Literacy is used in every single class we teach.  We use it in our daily lives at all ages and stages of life.  But just as there are different types of literacy, there are different ways to be literate.  Technology has made our students citizens of a global community with many different cultures.  Helping students to be culturally literate allow them to thrive in this global community as they understand and appreciate the cultural diversity of our world.
